Estación Biológica Cocha Cashu

PLEASE NOTE:

Starting on Jan. 1, 2007 station fees will be $12/day. When the cook is in residence, there will be an additional $10/day meal fee, for a total of $22/day. When there is no cook at the station, the meal fee is reduced to $8/day, for a total of $20/day. Fee increases are due to the decline of the US Dollar, increases in the price of oil, and inflation in Peru; all of these factors combined create higher prices for food and gas for the station. TRAVELING FROM CUZCO

There are two ways to get from Cuzco to Cocha Cashu:
1. By bus or truck from Cuzco to Atalaya/Shintuya (10 hours) and then by boat to Cocha Cashu:

One-way fee for truck from Cuzco to Atalaya/Shintuya as ordinary passenger is $20 USD OR
Charter truck from Cuzco to Atalaya/Shintuya is $300-$400 USD OR
Bus from Cuzco to Atalaya/Shintuya is $50 USD
Boat from Atalaya/Shintuya to Cocha Cashu is $125 USD (one-way fee for groups only)

2. By plane from Cuzco to Boca Manu (one hour), then by boat to Cocha Cashu:

Flight from Cuzco to Boca Manu (one way) is $100-$200 USD
Boat from Boca Manu to Cocha Cashu (one way) is $75-$135 (as of Oct. 2006)

Hotels

Hotels in Cuzco range from $6-$50 USD
Hotels in Lima are from $10-$20 USD

Plane tickets

Roundtrip airfare from Cuzco to Lima is $200
Roundtrip airfare from Miami to Lima is $1000 USD

Station Fees

Due to large increases in the number of EBCC residents and the high cost of maintaining station essentials such as food and gas, we must require that all investigators pay fees in advance. The total amount paid should include your best estimation of costs associated with assistants, food, and boat fees.

Please note that the Cocha Cashu Biological Station is entirely self-supporting. We receive no financial support of any kind from any institution. Instead, the station is supported by substantial hidden subsidies in the form of time donated to administration by Dr. Terborgh and his staff, and other researchers at EBCC. In order to keep the fees at EBCC as low as possible, please help by complying with the following guidelines to the best of your ability:

All investigators are required to pay a user fee of $12 USD per day for themselves and their assistants. NO ONE IS EXONERATED FROM THIS FEE FOR ANY REASON. The fee is the same for all station users and applies throughout the year.

During the months when the station employs a cook and purchases food (varies from year to year, but most dependably from July through November), an additional $8 USD per day will be included for meal service, bringing the total cost to $20/day.

In addition, there is a boat charge for transportation to and from the station. Please refer to the following schedule:
