Library Travel Grants

APSI is pleased to offer travel grants to scholars outside the Durham/ Raleigh/ Chapel Hill/Greensboro area to conduct research in the Duke University East Asia Collection during the 2007-2008 academic year.

GRANT AMOUNT: $500 to cover travel, hotel and photocopy expenses

PRIORITY GIVEN TO APPLICANTS:
1) who document how their research will benefit from access to the Duke Collection and whose research will take advantage of the Collection’s strengths 2) who are located in the Southeast or at institutions where there are no or few library resources nearby in East Asian languages

DEADLINES:
1) Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis. A total of six awards will be made.
2) Awards must be used before August 1, 2008.

TO APPLY: Submit a brief description of your research topic, the type/subject of materials you are seeking, sources in the collection you plan to use, a curriculum vitae, an estimated budget, and other questions you may have to:

The East Asian Collection at the Perkins Library consists of about 90,000 volumes in Chinese, Japanese and Korean. The collection is especially strong in Japanese Studies, especially art history, economics, the environment, history, literature, labor, political science, popular culture, social movements and women’s studies. Its collections on China are more narrowly focused; it has strengths in Chinese popular culture, film and TV studies, statistical yearbooks, and online full-text resources.
