Technical Details
A Generation of Proto-Hypertext Authors was designed as a
World Wide
Web site at
Duke University. All files were created
using UNIX
or were Macintosh text files converted to HTML format. The hypertext
annotations were then
added using HTML SuperText, a freeware program for the Macintosh, or by
hand using Emacs.
How to Navigate the Project
You may explore the text of the project either by moving through the document
one section at a time, or by 'carving it up' by searching through for
certain key words. The search mechanism will present you with a fractured
version of the text that refers only to the search keywords you enter.
Once you have entered the document, you may navigate by pushing the
buttons on the bottom of your screen:

These buttons allow
you to move back and forth from section to section.
the Home button returns you to the
project home page.
This button returns you to the Index.
Finally, you may return to the
Search mechanism.
If a button is
grayed out, it is not operational.
