All of the movies are now up online here on the Froshlife website! Just click over on the 2008 link on the left side of the site. The quality isn't bad, but its not as good as you'll get from the iTunes U versions. Enjoy!
Also, if you want a DVD of the entire show, feel free to drop by the Multimedia Project Studio with two blank DVDs and one of the consultants will help you burn a copy.
Movies Now Available on iTunes UFRIDAY, FEBRUARY 29, 2008
All of the Froshlife movies are now available on iTunes U. To get to the Froshlife album, you can navigate to the iTunes Music Store in iTunes, Click iTunes U on the left, then go to Duke > Student Life > Froshlife. Or you can just click here. Once you are there you can download all of the movies and upload them to your iPod or iPhone and rush off to show it to all your pals. Or just relive the moments on the bus between East and West to pass the time. Help get Froshlife into the top downloads!
All of the movies should be available on Monday here on the website in streaming form as well.
Froshlife Premiere a Massive Success!TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2008
In the standing room only crowd on Sunday night, the Freshman class premiered nine movies created over the past three weeks to an enthusiastic and raucus crowd. A big congratulations to everyone who participated in the event this year, and especially to our winners.
Stay tuned here for more updates on where to get the photos from the event, how to pick up a DVD of the premiere, and some other final updates...
Red Carpet Unrolls on Sunday - Froshlife PremiereFRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2008
Well, after 3 weeks of intense work, and truly inspired movie creation, we are finally just hours away from the sixth annual Froshlife Premiere! This Sunday night, dress up in your finest, bring out your friends, and come by the Richard White Lecture Hall before 8 for the big event. We will have some pre-show entertainment from WXDU spinning the classics, and don't miss your chance to schmooze with the paparazzi on the red carpet (and, of course, pick up a sweet new exclusive t-shirt).
I have to say, I am extremely impressed with this year's crop of movies. We have some of the best and most creative movies I have ever seen in this competition, so the audience is going to be in for a big treat. Just to tease a bit, this year's films include: A love-legend in the making, some alternatives to showering, the ubiquity of free t-shirts, a thrilling dance performance, someone in a cow suit, some advice for meeting women, an epic battle with ePrint, a walk down memory (campus) lane, and a second look at first impressions.
Also, we are rolling out an experimental pilot this year at the Froshlife Premiere - Froshlife Live! We will be streaming the event to this website live on the night of the premiere! If you want to invite your pals from other schools or your parents back home, they can come to this page on Sunday night and watch as we unveil this year's crop of films. Check out the post below for more details. Of course, if you are in Durham, watching the event live online can't possibly compare with being there. This year, we've outdone ourselves as far as preparations and decorations.
So shine your shoes, dust off those suits and evening gowns, do up your hair and makeup, and join us this Sunday night at 8 at the Richard White Lecture Hall on East Campus for the World Premiere of the 2008 Froshlife Movie Festival!
Froshlife FroshLIVEFRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2008
This year we are going to try something completely new. We are going to be filming the event and streaming it live! This is a very experimental process and we can't guarantee anything, but if you are not going to be in Durham on Sunday night, or want to share the premiere night with family and friends, you can do that here. On Sunday night, before 8 pm, navigate your favorite browser right here to this site, and click on the big icon below (it won't be available until shortly before the event begins). If you are feeling extra web-savvy, you can also watch the Premiere in Second Life. For more details about that, click here.
Of course, if you are in Durham, you've got to come to the real thing. A fuzzy webstream is no comparision for the red carpet below your feet, the audience's raucus reaction to this year's amazing films, and seeing your production premiered on the big screen.
Sage Advice from a Froshlife VetFRIDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2008
And now, some indispensible advice from Adam Barron, Director of 2007 First Place Pegram film, "Frosh Noir"
Hey Froshlife Teams,
I was asked to give a little advice that might help some struggling
production teams now at the half-way point of Froshlife (which, if you
were like us, was when it REALLY began).
1. Use the rule that about one minute in the final video takes AT
LEAST an hour to shoot. Setting up the camera, getting actors ready,
shooting different angles, and transportation time all add up in the
end.
2. If you are a director, it's better to shoot way too much than too
little. That extra 5 seconds could be essential to your video. Also
come up with interesting angles. Go crazy.
3. Froshlife videos work best when founded on CONCEPTS more than very
intricate dialogue. Some of the most successful past Froshlife videos
came up with the dialogue on the spot, but had amazing ideas for the
video.
4. Go to your editor right now and give him/her a huge hug. Get
him/her a Coke or something because EDITING IS BY FAR THE MOST
IMPORTANT STEP IN MAKING YOUR VIDEO LOOK AWESOME. If you are the
editor, make sure you are familiar with either iMovie or Final Cut Pro
because... you got a big job to do. No pressure though.
5. HAVE FUN!!! This is suppose to bring your dorm closer together so
don't start getting big egos and thinking that someone isn't good
enough to work on the video. This is not YOUR froshlife video, but
your dorm's. Get everyone in on it and even if your video doesn't win,
you will have the great memories and inside jokes to rub in the
winner's face!
Happy filming frosh!
adam barron.
director of 'Frosh Noir,' the winning Froshlife video of 2007.

Tonight one of the most important, ground-breaking, and downright fun events on Duke's campus will Kickoff. That's right. You first heard about it last summer. You've come to this page and seen all the previous films. You dined on donuts at the Study Breaks in December. Now it's time to mark your place in Duke history. Come by and we'll hook you up with other members of your dorm and give you all the information you need. Gather up your friends and hallmates and come by before or after dinner tonight between 6 and 8 to pick up your equipment and get started on your Froshlife masterpiece!
Remember, the first ten dorms to pick up equipment will get the use of our swanky Macbook Pros, while everyone else will get the use of our just-as-swanky Macbooks.
Duke Today Features FroshlifeTUESDAY, JANUARY 22, 2008
Duke Today, our community daily news source for all things Duke, has posted a really well-done video about Froshlife. The movie features Gwen Getliffe, our best director winner from 2007, and Shang Gao, our best director from 2006 and multiple award-winning member of Froshlife spinoff production company Sweet and Sour Productions. The two Froshlife veterans offer some really great insight about the untold stories of Froshlife - what happens behind the scenes - and how the competition is about a whole lot more than movie making. You can check it out below, or at the Duke Today website.

Froshlife Trailer Up!FRIDAY, JANUARY 18, 2008
This year the Froshlife trailer was created by Froshlife veteran Shang Gao (Wilson '06 winner) and DUI's own Lawrence Chen. They really upped the ante this year with an in depth look at the process of making a movie. Of course, these guys are pros - you certainly don't need to draw out storyboards or use light reflectors if you don't want to. Make it your own, thats the beauty of Froshlife. So without further ado...
