  Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts

Duke Chapel and Religious Life Staff Finding Ways to Respond

Duke Chapel is working to find ways to respond to the needs of the victims of Hurricane contributing the entirety of the September 4 worship service offering to relief organizations.

"We are praying for the victims of this terrible tragedy. Our desire is to respond in ways that are truly helpful and not merely sentimental," said Assistant Dean Craig Kocher.

In addition to contributing offering funds from future Sunday services to relief organizations, Duke Chapel will also be looking at ways to collect and provide victims with tangible relief items, such as food, medicine, and soap. Members of the campus religious life staff are currently in conversation about sending teams to affected areas when appropriate, as early as fall break in October.

The Deans of the Chapel and members of the religious life staff are available for pastoral care and counseling, especially for those who have a deep connection to the affected areas. For contact information, please visit www.chapel.duke.edu.
