Aviation Officer, Duke University
The Aviation Officer graduated from Boston University in 2000 with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and was commissioned through the NROTC program. Before reporting to flight school, the Aviation Officer was "stashed" at VQ2, a P-3 squadron in Rota, Spain. After completing Flight School in Pensacola, FL, he flew the MH-60 Sierra Blackhawk from the USS PELELIU (LHA 5). As a division officer, he participated in search and rescue operations in the Persian Gulf. His second tour was aboard USS RAINIER (AOE 7) where he served as Operations Officer. The RAINIER provided aid to victims of the tsunami in Indonesia. Next, the Aviation Officer became the Search and Rescue Officer-In-Charge of the USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76) for Southern California workups. Finally, he flew Hurricane Katrina relief missions in New Orleans.
The Aviation Officer reported to Duke University in January 2006 and teaches Naval Orientation and Sea Power and Maritime Affairs.
