Submarine Warfare Officer, Duke University
The Submarine Warfare Officer, a native of Great Falls Virginia, commissioned from the United States Naval Academy on May 24, 2002 and holds a B.S in Political Science. In July of 2002, he reported to Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in Charleston, South Carolina. Following six months of intense classroom instruction, he transferred to Nuclear Power Training Unit, Charleston. There he received hands-on training in the operation of the S5W Reactor Plant aboard the MTS 626. Following his qualification as Engineering Officer of the Watch, he transferred to the Submarine Officer's Basic course at the Naval Submarine School in Groton, Connecticut. During this three month school, he received intensive training in ship handling and weapons employment.
In December 2003, the Submarine Warfare Officer reported to the USS KENTUCKY (SSBN 737)(GOLD) in Bangor, Washington. While onboard the KENTUCKY, the Submarine Warfare Officer served as Torpedo Division Officer, Damage Control Assistant, Diving Officer, Anti-terrorism/Force Protection Officer, and Assistant Weapons Officer during his 35 month tour. During this time he also qualified in submarines and as Engineer Officer. During his tour the KENTUCKY(GOLD) successfully completed a six month dry-docking refit period as well as four strategic deterrent patrols.
The Submarine Warfare Officer's decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Global war on Terrorism Service Medal.
