Employment

The Duke Police Department is currently accepting applications for the following positions:

Police Officer Applicants

Police Officer applicants must have a valid North Carolina driver's license, be at least 20 years old and have uncorrected vision no worse than 20/200 for both eyes together. Preference is given to applicants who possess one or more of the following:

  • Current North Carolina law enforcement certification;
  • Completion of North Carolina basic law enforcement training (BLET) within the last 9 months;
  • College degree in any field;
  • Prior law enforcement, security or military experience.

Security Officer Applicants

Although prior security experience is desirable, no prior experience is required. Complete on-the-job training is provided to all officers.

Emergency Communications Officer Applicants

Experience operating radio and other communications equipment is ideal. The applicant will be required to attain and maintain NC Division of Criminal Information (DCI) certification within 90 days of their appointment. Preference will be given to those applicants who have had prior dispatching experience and who possess personal computer familiarity.
