Notre-Dame d'Chartres

Begun in 1145 AD and completed in 1220 AD after being destroyed by fire in 1194 AD, Notre-Dame d'Chartres (also know as the Cathedral of Notre-Dame or Chartres Cathedral) is located in the town of Chartres in northwestern France. It is one of the top three examples of French Gothic architecture (in addition to the cathedrals at Amiens and Reims). In addition to its many sculptures and beautiful stained glass, the cathedral is also famous for another treasured icon.....the supposed Veil of the Virgin is housed within its vaults.
