El Trajín

El Trajín was an ancient city of the Totonac Indians of Mesoamerica. It is located in the state or Veracruz, Mexico near the town of Papantla. It was discovered in 1758 by the Spanish official Diego Ruíz. The city was in use from the first century until its sudden destruction in 1100 AD. It is now in the care of the Totonic Indians, who guard it very closely.
