Vatican
City
Situated
on less than a quarter of a mile (.17 square miles), the Vatican
City is the smallest country in the world. It is contained entirely
within the city of Rome west of the River Tiber and is comprised
of St. Peter's Basilica, St. Peter's Square, the Vatican, and
the Vatican Gardens. Vatican City is the center of the Roman
Catholic faith and is headed by the Pope (John Paul II since
1978).
