KALMAN P.
BLAND (1973)* received the B.S. in Philosophy from Columbia University;
the B.R.E and M.H.L. (Rabbi) from Jewish Theological Seminary; and
the Ph.D. in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies from Brandeis University.
His major fields of research and teaching are medieval and modern
Jewish intellectual history. His publications include texts and studies
in medieval Islamic and Jewish philosphy, as well as a monograph on
Jewish aesthetics, The Artless Jew: Medieval and Modern Affirmations
and Denials of the Visual. He recently won a Templeton Foundation
Award supporting a new course, "Religion and Science." He currently
serves as Director of Duke's Center for Judaic Studies and Director
of Undergraduate Studies in Religion and Judaic Studies.
