Transportation
Alerts & News
Getting around Duke can sometimes be a challenge. Check the Parking & Transportation web site for news and alert information.
Buses
Duke's Parking and Transportation Services offers free bus routes throughout campus and the medical center, as well as service to Erwin Mill and even UNC. There are DATA buses that run to and from Duke to all points in Durham, and Triangle Transit Authority has trip planners and even plans for light rail in the future.
Parking and Permits
As home to 30,000 employees, parking is a complex business at Duke. Parking and Transportation Services has developed parking access for faculty, staff and visitors - with fines for parking outside designated areas (though there is an appeal process). Employees and departments must have permits for their designated parking areas, though there may be alternative rules for some areas such as the Libraries, Continuing Studies and the American Tobacco Campus.
SAFERides
Duke suggests Charlene's Safe Rides for getting around the rest of Durham, or during non-service hours.
Alternative Transportation
Duke supports alternative forms of transportation including carpools and rideshares, biking, flexible work options and, of course, walking the beautiful campuses - no matter your destination.
Disability Management
With Duke’s emphasis on diversity we strive to provide all people the same options and accessibility, whether in classrooms, dorms & offices or parking. Duke also offers disability assistance in academics or on the web. And the Duke libraries provide extensive array of accessibility resources and information.
