Greenhouse Gas Inventory

Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions

Duke's GHG Inventory contains data going back to 1990, but incorporates far more activity beginning in 2007.  The chart below groups carbon emitting activity into four major groups, Purchased Electricity from the local utility, Steam Plant, which includes energy used to heat buildings, and Transportation including employee commuting and school-related student travel.

Transportation Footprint

Duke's transportation footprint is comprised of three major sources.

  • Commuter travel: employees commuting from their home to work.
  • Air travel: faculty/staff work travel, sports team travel, and school-related student travel.
  • Fleet: all bus and university vehicles operated for directly work-related purposes.
