Introduction / Background

This Web site provides a comprehensive gateway to information and resources needed by Duke faculty and academic personnel to support course instruction.

The concept originated during discussions in the ITAC subcommittee for academic technology which focused on the need for a single Web site that would bring together information on teaching resources.

Objectives

• Make identification of and access to teaching resources straightforward.
• Expose new faculty to Duke's full range of academic resources.
• Provide opportunity for faculty feedback.
• Offer quick access to academic guidelines and procedures, calendars, instructional technology, copyright info, etc.

Phase I

The first phase of the Teaching Resources Web site will function as a prototype for future versions. As a static HTML Web site, its look and feel will be consistent with the Duke.edu site. The site will provide access to all information available on the Teaching Resources page of Duke.edu and additional information identified by the core and extended project teams.

Phase II

The scope for the second phase II of the Teaching Resources Web site is to be determined. Ideas include school-specific branding, dynamic content, phased implementation of paperless processes and forms, syndicated content, user profiles and automated alerts for upcoming deadlines. Upon completion of the Phase I information architecture, the core team will scope Phase II and initiate discussions with enterprise systems support groups regarding technical requirements. This site will likely be incorporated into a university portal effort.
