Once each semester, Vertices offers student-written features and departments focusing on scientific/medical research and technological developments at Duke University, as well as on science-related issues of more general concern. As the only undergraduate publication devoted to the sciences and medicine at Duke, one of the nation's premiere research universities, Vertices occupies a unique place among the University's publications and student activities; the magazine is as much a liason between students and the faculty and staff as it is a forum for inquiry and opinion.

Vertices is completely student-funded. The Duke Student Government allocates funding annually for each member publication of the Duke Undergraduate Publications Board, in accordance with an annual line-item budget prepared by the Publications Board. The Board oversees the operation of Vertices and all other official student publications.
