Contents: Correspondence, memoranda, clippings, manuals, a diary, financial records, personnel records and employment applications, committee and consortium records, reports, grant proposals, and other material concerning the development of computing in the Research Triangle area. Major subjects include the development of the Duke Computer Science Program, and the operation and equiping of the Triangle Universities Computation Center and Duke Computer Laboratory. The collection includes the proposal made in 1970 by the Duke Computer Science Working Group to Vice Provost Lewis to establish a computer science program; minutes of the University Computing Committee (unfoldered); proposals for equipment purchases made to TUCC and Duke by IBM and Control Data Corporation, and proposals by Duke and TUCC to the National Science Foundation for expansion of the systems. Also, minutes and other records of TUCC, and materials concerning applications for automation in the university environment: e.g., medical applications, and automated phoentic transciptions of classical and modern Greek.
