History: TUCC was established in 1965 as a cooperative venture by Duke, NC State, and UNC-Chapel Hill to provide main-frame computing services to the universities, the Research Triangle Institute, and others. It shut down in 1990 due to financial difficulties, the increased use of personal computers, and disagreements among the partners.
Contents: Annual reports, minutes, correspondence, proposals, newsletters, indexes, memoranda, and other materials relating to the founding, organization, and operation of TUCC; some of the material has information about the early days of academic computing at Duke. The collection includes a videotape presentation about TUCC by Leland Williams, the President and Director; minutes and correspondence of the Board Directors; minutes of the staff, committees, and the campus center directors; director's correspondence; funding proposals, mainly to NSF; and microfilm copies of files used in a suit brought against IBM by Control Data Corporation in 1972/73.
Restriction: 12 RS boxes are in off-site storage; 48 hours advance notice is required for use.
