Extent: 43.1 linear ft. ; 88 Hollinger boxes + 4 RS boxes + 1 flat box

History: Professor of Economics and Business Administration, 1925-1966, and Dean of the Graduate School, 1938-1948, Hoover saw extensive government service from 1935-1947, and was awarded the Medal of Freedom.

Contents: Personal and professional correspondence, along with printed matter, departmental files, class and lecture notes, a taped interview and transcript, copies of all his publications, and other materials. The collection is valuable for studies of the O.S.S., and espionage, the administration of an academic department during wartime, Soviet economic conditions in the 1930s, the formation of New Deal agricultural policies, and the development of the American foreign aid program. Correspondents include John Kenneth Galbraith, Maynard Keynes, Joseph Schumpeter, Gunnar Myrdal, and other economists, as well as figures in government. Hoover travelled extensively in Europe and Russia from the late 1920s through the 1950s, and letters to his family contain impressions of political and economic conditions in those places.

Restriction: Correspondence to his wife, 1929-1930, restricted by donor's request. Permission of the University Archivist is required.
