Frequently called by her nickname, "Jerry."Contents: Correspondence, typescripts of articles and addresses, reports, printed matter, photographs, clippings, and other materials, with bulk dates 1940-1964. The major subject documented is the history and development of the physical education program at The Woman's College, Duke University, 1924-1964. This is treated in correspondence, reports, and typescripts of speeches given to clubs, Duke administrators, and other bodies. The collection also includes sabbatical reports done by Professor Grout on women's physical education in Holland, Sweden and Norway in the late 1950s; printed matter, correspondence and other materials concerning a trip to Africa in 1958; letters of appreciation on the occasion of her retirement, and memorials on her death; speeches given by her honoring other members of the College, including Deans Alice Mary Baldwin, Ruth Smith, and Mary Grace Wilson; records of the Committee for the Dedication of the Alice M.
