History: Educator, professor of English, Duke University, 1947-1976. B.A., M.A., Wayne State University. He came to Duke after holding appointments at Oklahoma State University and Wayne State University. During World War II, he served in the Navy. He retained active status in the Reserves, and taught a number of courses for naval personnel. Professor Wetherby was a specialist in speech communications and regional dialects, and was well known in university debating circles. He guided Duke's debate team and WDBS, the student radio station and taught English to foreign students.
Contents: Printed material, correspondence, minutes, memoranda, class records, student papers, photographs, and other materials with bulk dates 1947 to 1976 reflecting Wetherby's interests in teaching English as a foreign language, broadcasting, and debating.
