History: Social action group, formed in 1972 by students at Duke University and St. Andrews College, and later joined by chapters at Wake Forest University and Davidson College. Has carried out projects involving student voter registration, health care, public utilities, land use planning, and consumer issues. A folder titled 'History stuff' is in box 2.

Contents: Minutes, correspondence, financial and personnel records, project files, newsletters, reports, flyers, and other materials concerning activities of the NCPIRG, and of regional and national public interest research groups. The bulk of the material is made up of records concerning the founding of PIRG chapters at other North Carolina institutions, and office administrative records. Includes copies of the NCPIRG Advocate and other publications. Among the projects documented are a Brown Lung conference, VISTA program in Durham's West End, student voter registration, and the Free University at Duke, ca. 1978-1980.
