Contents: Correspondence, programs, photographs, financial records, contracts, and other records, including records pre-dating the Union's formation, but having to do with cultural events.

History: The Union was founded in 1954, as the Duke Student Union, with the purpose of promoting the social, recreational, cultural, educational and spiritual activities of the students. Membership in the Union is now open to all members of the university community. The present committee structure had its origins in the 1950s. The Union is governed by a Board, which also governs the operation of the University Center. The administrative staff of the Union is appointed, while the president and other executive officers are elected by the membership.
