Duke is embarking on the creation of a campus technology environment that will enhance our quality as an educational and research institution. This Computer and Information Technology Intensive Environment (CITIE) will bring together a rich array of resources to match the needs of faculty and students while they are exploring new modes of teaching, learning, and research. CITIE will enable us to be proactive and agile as we undertake the process of integrating the ongoing changes in technology and our society with Duke’s traditional values.

Over the next several years, faculty will take advantage of CITIE resources in different ways. Some will utilize the new technology environment to streamline the administrative activities related to their courses with minimal changes to their classroom teaching. Others will choose to use several types of resources from CITIE as they experiment with new approaches to teaching and research in their disciplines. Faculty who have been early adopters and extensive users of technology will continue to innovate and create models which eventually become part of the CITIE environment. Educational goals drive the use of technology, as faculty and students find uses that fit their disciplinary focus and individual teaching and learning styles.
