Summer Camp 2008
Once again the Duke University String School is offering two separate weeks of chamber music camps directed by Dorothy Kitchen. The two camps will take place in June and July.
Senior instructors are Dorothy Kitchen, Stephanie Swisher, Kathleen Krull, and Shelley Livingston; and our assistants are Sarah Henderson, Jessica Long, and Michael Lo.
Camp I: Monday June 16 through Friday June 20
Camp II: Monday, July 7 through Friday July 11
Concerts are held June 20 and July 11 at 5:30p in Bone Hall.
Camps include technique studies, chamber music, music appreciation, theory, and fun. After lunch, we make a trek out of the building for kick-beach-ball if the weather is good and we have been known to play charades.
On Friday, there is a theory bee, a 2 p.m. concert where other DUSS students may play as well as campers, and at 5:30 we present our special program including all that we have learned during the week. The level is mixed and it is essential we have enough students at each level, so we can do our best work.
There is a minimum of 25 students for the camps and a maximum of 40, depending on the levels and the groupings. Since there is need to have balanced levels, all students must interview with Mrs. Kitchen before camp, unless she has heard the students play.
E-mail Mrs. Kitchen at djknjk@earthlink.net to set up an audition time. You must arrange the audition personally with Mrs. Kitchen.
These are playing camps, and the level of the students rises greatly in one week of playing in this manner.
HALF DAY CAMP FEE: $215
FULL DAY CAMP FEE: $350
Fees include all music, snacks, t-shirts (you provide the size), and lunch for the all-day campers. Please fill out the form here, make your audition arrangement, and return the form with your check made out to DUSS. Registration must be received by April 30, 2008.
E-mail or phone Mrs. Kitchen directly for your audition or ask your teacher to do so and to discuss your level.
We are looking forward to the best camps ever for 2008!!!
