    Fred Raimi, Honorary Faculty

    Fred Raimi is a special honors cello teacher for DUSS. He was born in Detroit and educated at Johns Hopkins and Julliard; his main teachers were Maurice Eisenberg and Paul Olefsky. While a student, he was a finalist in the Walter Naumburg Competition and a winner of the International Cello Competition in Cascais, Portugal. He has been a member of the Ciompi Quartet since 1974 when he joined the Duke faculty. Before that, he was cellist of the Amici Quartet at Hamilton College and Colgate University. He has performed frequently at the Marlboro and Spoleto Festivals. Fred was one of 100 cellists who performed in Carnegie Hall in 1969 under the direction of Pablo Casals and he also played in Casals's final master class in 1973.
