Triangle Farm Tour, Green Home Tour, or Both!
The 14th Annual Piedmont Farm Tour, and the 4th Annual Triangle Green Home Tour both kick-off on Saturday, April 25, 2009. The tours are excellent opportunities to experience two different elements of the Triangle's burgeoning sustainability movement.
Last year's farm tour brought over 3,000 families out to the eighteen participating produce farms, twelve farms with humanely-raised animals, two nurseries, three vineyards and five farm projects. This year's Green Home Tour features 36 entries in various stages of construction from a six-county area. The two tours demonstrate clearly why the Triangle Area is consistently identified as a hotbed for sustainable agriculture and greenbuilding activity, respectively.
The tours both run on Saturday, April 25th and Sunday the 26th; however, the home tour continues the following weekend, giving you plenty of time to do both!
The Green Home Tour offers a tour book, available for free at the HBA of Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties [directions]. The booklets are also available at one of two kickoff events at Whole Foods in Raleigh from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, April 23, or Sat, Apr 25 from 9 to 11 am at the Carrboro Century Center.
The Piedmont Farm Tour is co-sponsored by the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association (CFSA) and Weaver Street Market. Maps and tickets are available online or at Weaver Street Market. Tour tickets are by the carload: $25 in advance, $30 at the door, for any combination of farms, both days. It costs $10 per carload to visit single farms.
