Take a Campus Tree Tour (Google Maps Layer)

In recognition of Duke's recent designation as a Tree Campus USA, and in celebration of Spring, Sustainable Duke is sharing this online walking tour of a few of the beautiful trees that shape the character of our institution.  The Campus Tree Tour was created by Duke Facilities Management Department (FMD) Grounds Maintenance Office to share a small fraction of the numerous trees that inhabit the more than 600 acres that make up Duke University and Duke Medical Center Campuses.  Use the map to take an ambitious self-guided walk or to familiarize yourself with some of the distinct trees you pass by every day in your area of campus.  Many of the trees on Duke's campus were part of the original campus design developed by the Olmsted Brothers landscape architect firm, founded by famous landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted.

"Throughout the tour you will find examples of native and non-native trees that help to create a rich, and diverse urban forest.  Being surrounded by the splendor of these trees helps to provide a positive sense of being, and supports Duke University's mission, "...to elevate the spirit"
