Seminar: Stakeholder Participation in Sustainable Development

Felix Dodd, Executive Director of the Stakeholder Forum for a Sustainable Future will present on the transition from Madisonian notions of representative democracy to Jeffersonian ideals of participatory democratic processes, and the implications of this transition for global sustainable development. Dodd's talk, entitled, "Stockholm to Earth Summit 2012 — the emergence of stakeholder democracy," will examine the role stakeholders have played in international policy discussions about climate change and what role they are now taking in preparations for a the Earth Summit 2012, in Stockholm.
Felix has played a critical role in promoting multistakeholder dialogue at the UN. From 1997 to 2001 he chaired the NGO Coalition on Sustainable Development at the UN. He facilitated the setting up of the international NGO Coalition for the UN Commission on Sustainable Development and the UN Habitat II Conference. He has been an advisor to the UK Government and the European Commission as a number of UN meetings. He has published five books, the latest edited with Tim Pipard Human and Environmental Security brought out for the World Summit 2005. His other books are Into the Twenty First Century (1988), The Way Forward Beyond Agenda 21 1997), Earth Summit 2002 A New Deal (2000 and 2002), How to Lobby at Intergovernmental Meetings - Mine is a Cafe Latte (with Michael Strauss) (2004).
