Two More Reasons To Try Transit This Month

Join Triangle Transit (TTA) and other transit systems on June 18th in celebrating National Dump the Pump Day.  The day encourages people to ride public transportation to save money, protect the environment, reduce dependence on foreign oil, and improve our quality of life.

For those who don't live near an existing bus route or looking for a little added incentive, Triangle Transit has also announced that Duke staff and faculty who join a Triangle Transit vanpool by June 30 will receive free vanpool fare for the month of July. [Learn more about vanpools at Duke]

Riding the bus or using a vanpool can save the average Duke employee more than $500 a year in gas and parking.  Duke students and employees can take advantage of subsidies of up to 60% when they buy passes through Duke Parking and Transportation's office [more info]. The American Public Transportation Association says public transportation saves 900,000 automobile fill-ups each day - 4.2 billion gallons of gasoline per year. And switching to public transportation can reduce individual carbon emissions by 20 pounds per day or 4,800 pounds per year.

Triangle Transit has a trip planner, a commute savings calculator, and a how-to-ride guide online for new riders.  It's all available at www.triangletransit.org.  Interested customers can also call 919-485-RIDE to talk to a customer service representative.
Triangle Transit improves the region's quality of life by connecting people and places with reliable, safe, and easy-to-use travel choices that reduce congestion and energy use, save money, and promote sustainability, healthier lifestyles, and a more environmentally responsible community.
