FEMMES (Females Excelling More in Math, Engineering, and Science) is a
student-run organization, founded in 2006 by Vicki Weston, that hosts
educational outreach programs related to math, science and engineering for
4th-6th grade girls from Durham public schools. We encourage the girls to
explore their potential in math, engineering, and science through an annual,
free-of-charge, one-day capstone event and several after-school programs.
Through FEMMES, female Duke undergraduates, graduates, and faculty members
volunteer their time to instill enthusiasm about their careers in the
developing minds of young women. The Duke students form personal
relationships with the participants of our programs and have a positive
influence on the girls' views of women in math,
engineering, and science.
We are very excited to announce that FEMMES has won the Power in Numbers
grant! Thank you for your support!
