Interested in joining FEMMES?

The goal of FEMMES is to give girls hands-on experience in fields where women
are often greatly under-represented. By using female volunteers and faculty
members, we hope to demonstrate that women can and do excel in these fields. Our program hosts a one-day event and an after-school mentoring/activity program with Parkwood Elementary School. This aspect of the program involves being matched up with a few 4th-5th grade girls and doing various hands-on science, math, and engineering activities with them once a week. Students can choose when and for which activities they would like to volunteer based on their time and interests.

As a student volunteer, you would be an absolutely critical part of how successful the program is and how much funding we continue to receive each year. During the main event, student volunteers lead groups to the activities and act as mentors for the day to our program's
participants. You have a special role in which not only do you get to make sure that things run smoothly, but you will get to know the kids in your group better than anyone else during the day. Whether you're volunteering for just one day or participating weekly in the after-school mentorship program, you'll be making a huge impact on the girls you meet.

So, if you're interested in being involved with FEMMES in any way, please shoot us a quick email and we will add you to our mailing list. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask us!

Note: If you would like to be even more involved with the program, you can do so by joining the FEMMES '08-'09 Executive Board.
