A record number of people (28!!!) turned up for HKSA's first event of the Spring- Dim Sum at Hong Kong Restaurant. It was a huge success as it brought together people of all ages and varying affiliations with Duke to enjoy one thing we all have in common, Dim Sum! In fact, we've been to this Dim Sum restaurant so often that we're almost on a first name basis with the boss! Stay tuned for our next event, most likely February 13th in celebration of Chinese New Year!

Happy New Year Dukies! The first event of the new decade was held at The Annexx, an intimate location in Lan Kwai Fong, Hong Kong serving delicious gourmet Italian food. After a short round of cocktails, we all settled around the massive dinner table and picked our favorites from the extensive menu. Many of us have not seen one an other for several months so it was a heartwarming experience to catch up around the scrumptious food The Annexx served. After dinner, Danal was presented with a birthday cupcake his wife arranged- Happy Birthday Danal. The night ended soon after as the alumni parted ways to rest up for the last work day of week!

If you ask anyone from Hong Kong what they miss most from home, hot pot is almost always up there on the top 3. With the temperature starting to drop and exams coming up, we decided to make our final event of the semester a hot pot dinner after Thanksgiving! Not only is it a good way for HKSA to get their hot pot fix, but also a much-needed break from studying at the same time! Chef Nicholas Chan did a great job of preparing everything and the food turned out perfectly. Look out for more updates coming soon on the Blue Devils official meet-up in Hong Kong after New Year's! Check back for more details!

Even though Mid-Autumn Festival occurred during Fall Break this year, we still had a great turn out for our get-together dinner at Chai's. As we walked back to campus, many of us couldn't help but admire at the full moon on this clear autumn night. Ending this marvelous night, we savored the few mooncakes we had at the Japanese Tea House in the Duke Gardens while exchanging jokes and having an all-round good time.

Normally, we only have gatherings to mark a special occasion back home or to participate in one of the many University sponsored events such as Food Fest or Springternational. However this time around, we decided to organize a unique visit to Duke's Lemur Center where we can gain a first-hand insight into the lives of these unique creatures as well as how the biggest Lemur Center in North America functions! We first met for some Dim Sum at the nearby Hong Kong Restaurant and then enjoyed a fantastic tour of the Center's facilities and got to meet different species of Lemurs! This was incredibly successful so we plan on having more events like these in the future!

As an annual tradition, we took the freshmen class, the Class of 2013 out to dinner. While previous turnouts for this event have been modest at best, we had a massive turnout! This was partly due to the 5 freshmen we had in addition to 4 grad students! We enjoyed a delicious meal at a nearby Korean restaurant, where we shared jokes and handed out advice to the freshmen class who were already overwhelmed and incredibly excited about the rest of the semester already! Let's hope this positivity continues and all our newest members have a great time at Duke!

Hong Kong Student Association and The Duke Alumni Club of Hong Kong co-hosted the Freshmen send-off dinner/Alumni gathering event. The turnout was larger than expected, with almost 20 people showing up, even including proud parents! We chose to eat at Mijas, a spacious and elegant Spanish restaurant located at the picturesque Stanley. After a long dinner with plenty of interesting conversations in the meantime, some of us headed to Causeway Bay to enjoy a few drinks, reveling in the excitement the coming year is surely going to bring! Pictures to come soon!

Nick and Jason met up for a meeting discussing plans for HKSA next year. From that meeting, came the idea to organize a freshmen welcome lunch and trip to Duke's very own Lemur center the first weekend after classes start. Hopefully the turnout will be big, and everyone will have a good time!

This time around the Hong Kong Student Association had a small gathering to celebrate Agnes' 20th birthday. We dined at an exquisite Japanese restaurant, whose name escapes me, enjoying delicious sushi, ramen and udon that can't be beat! After dinner, we stayed to chat and catch up a little with each other before heading back to campus.
