Environmental education is of increasing importance to those who prepare to teach, particularly in the sciences. Duke's concurrent degree program between the Nicholas School of the Environment and the Graduate School allows students to earn a Master of Environmental Management (MEM) degree and a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree in general science.
Students complete 36 units of credit in the Nicholas School of the Environment including a master's project. For the MAT, students complete 30 units of credit including the two-semester internship. The MAT will normally be completed first.
Students must apply to and be accepted by both the Nicholas School of the Environment and the Graduate School.
