Hello!
Project WILD began as Duke’s first pre-orientation program in 1974 with the help of the Carolina Outward Bound School. Since then, the program has grown to include a spring break trip, a house course, a low ropes course, and a fall trip for Durham area high school students (Step into the WILD). In the past 30 years, thousands of Duke Students have started their college experience with Project WILD, and through our low ropes course and Step into the WILD, the Durham community can benefit from wilderness experiential education as well.
Mission Statement
Project WILD (Wilderness Initiatives for Learning at Duke), as an entirely student run organization at Duke University, aims to provide an environment and an open community based on trust and respect where participants can:
- Engage in challenging, shared experiences
- Take ownership of their personal growth
- Be exposed to environmental awareness
- Develop leadership skills
- Become empowered to make a maximum positive impact
- And broaden and challenge their perspectives of themselves and the world around them through outdoor and experiential education.
