Welcome to Duke!

The Project WILD Pre-Orientation Trip is an awesome way to start off your college experience! For two weeks, you get to backpack in Pisgah National Forest, rock climb, swim in beautiful lakes and water falls, and see some truly glorious stars from the mountains. But the best part is, when the trip is over--your college experience is just beginning! The friends you make in the woods will be with you for the next four years of college!

If you’re worried that you don’t have much outdoor experience, don’t be! Most people who go on PWILD have never been backpacking before. Also, Project WILD is all about getting people to try new things, so if backpacking sounds a bit different for you, give it a try!

Project WILD leaders are second-, third-, and fourth-year Duke Students who have all been Wilderness Advanced First Aid trained. Unlike other programs, Project WILD is entirely student run, and this is a great advantage because after the trip when you arrive back at Duke, you will have upperclassmen contacts to turn to. And having recently started college themselves, our leaders know how to make your transition to college a blast!

The next four years will only be what you make them, so don’t miss out! Sign up for Project WILD!
