March 2007

Well its the end of second semester and the Phi pledge class is very sad they will soon be leaving Duke. The Chi and Psi pledge classes couldn't be happier. Alpha Alpha has joined the brother hood after a semi-successful "New Recruitment Period". Apparently some aspects of the fraternity, originating from David Gastwirth have been lost along the way to some. Some new things are a semi-daily newsletter courtesy of Brother Yeh, a new website, courtesy of Brother Edelsburg, and a new title for Master Sperber.

July 2004

Summer session 2004 has many members of this illustrious fraternity residing at Duke. Jake Flomenberg and Dan "Puat" Stepner are currently working on engineering projects. Michael Lehrman finally completed his graduation requirements, Nick Nickerson (one of the worst technology chairs ever) finished his foreign language requirement, Michael Wagner is currently taking numerous science classes, and Kevin Parker is doing his duty as the new Duke University Union President. Various alumnus and other fraternity members have also found their way to our fair state. We would like to congratulate the Phi pledge class on being new inductees into our organization and wish Sigma well in all their adventures.

January 2001

This semester welcomes back 8 brothers who were abroad in the Fall. Marc Eida, Courtney Laginess, Jed Lowenthal, Geoff Meyerson, Aaron Salsberg, Larry Sandell, Eric Solnin, and Mike Weiss have all returned from their respective countries to give us a full complement of brothers for Rush 2001.

Thanks to Brian Litt, Ori Benhamou, Matt Davis, Joe Zeidner, Josh Brodsky, Darin Buxbaum, Matt LeBauer, Dan Kaplan, and Eric Bonno for their great service last semester.

November 2000

We would like to thank all of the Alumni, from the founding class to the class of 2000, who returned to celebrate with us on our 15th anniversary. We had many fun events planned, which allowed brothers to reunite, and meet others they had never known.

The Greek letter Pi means many things to different people: the name of a short-lived indie film, the ratio of circumference to diameter of a circle, a round fruity dessert. For the brothers of Delta Kappa, Pi will forever represent the beginning of a new era, as we usher in the Pi pledge class of 22 men, nearly doubling the size of the chapter.

The class includes Ori Benhamou, Josh Brodsky, Matt Davis, Marc Eida, Brian Fried, Neal Goldenberg, Harold Gutmann, Dan Kaplan, Courtney Laginess, Matt Lebauer, Dan Librot, Jed Lowenthal, Andrew Mahen, Geoff Meyerson, Patrick Rosenthal, Evan Russell, Aaron Salsberg, Larry Sandell, Clark Smith, Quinn Snyder, Eric Solnin, and Mike Weiss.

January 1999

After a restful break, the brothers convened the first weekend to vote on a new exec board. The new board consists of Master Paul Knickerbocker, Lieutenant Master Barry Spatzer, Scribe Michael Ehrlich, Exchequer Aaron Dorn, Sentinel Aaron Stahl, and Social Chair Brian Litt.

September 1998

Thirteen years after the fraternity's founding, alumni gathered during homecoming to celebrate the fraternity's "Bar Mitzvah."
In a classy affair, planned by social chair Neil Berlin, alumni and brothers alike basked in the glow of the fraternity's coming of age. Over 30 alumni from around the country were in attendance to help celebrate.
Neil Berlin also read a letter to the assembled brotherhood from founding father
Manny Spira. The Bar Mitzvah was held at the Searle Center, located on Science Drive near the Medical Center.

August 1998

The National convention was held in Atlanta, GA this year. Master Jeff Kolesky was the only delegate from Delta Kappa, but we were also well-represented by Dave Simon, a regional governor for the Pennsylvania area who is a Delta Kappa alumnus. The convention delegates had a wonderful time while trading ideas with other chapters about rush and pledging, as well as running the chapters.

May 1998

According to ritual, all students must party on the last day of classes (with Ben Folds Five this year) and then make a pilgrimage to Myrtle Beach, SC. Not ones to buck tradition, most of the Delta Kappas went down to Myrtle Beach for some fun in the sun and a splendid volleyball tournament.

March 1998

The Omicron pledge class was initiated into the Delta Kappa chapter after a exciting pledge program. The 12 initiates were extremely enthusiastic about becoming brothers, and talk of plans to help out the fraternity in any way possible hardly stopped.

January 1998

The chapter held elections the first weekend back at school. The new officers are as follows: Master Jeff Kolesky, Lt. Master Brad Levine, Rush Chair Matt Zisow, Scribe Dan Lebbin, Exchequer Eric Edison, Sentinel Eric Gordon, and Social Chair Mike Fisher.

The chapter would like to thank Jason Solganick, Neil Berlin, Josh Spiegel, Jeff Kolesky, Scott Lobel, Brad Levine, and Keith Fournier for their dedicated service to the fraternity last term.

December 1997

The chapter has begun a new philanthropy this year, headed by Lt. Master Neil Berlin. Local businesses and individuals join the Three-Point Club by making a pledge to donate a certain amount of money per three-point shot made by the Duke Women's Basketball Team. All proceeds will benefit Coaches vs. Cancer, an non-profit organization dedicated to cancer research and providing patient services, and the Genesis Home, a local shelter for families. For more information, check out the Three-Point Club Homepage.

September 1997

A new year has begun. All brothers have moved back into the dorms, and the newly initiated brothers have experienced house living for a week now. It looks to be an excellent year, with a full social, academic and service calendar.

April 1997

The Delta Kappa Chapter initiated the Xi pledge class, elected the executive board members, and said farewell to the seniors all in the same day. The Xi pledge class includes George Brown, Bob Bierig, Aaron Dorn, Eric Edison, Mike Fisher, Eric Gordon, Paul Knickerbocker, Dan Lebbin, Brad Levine, Pat West, Mark Ziler, and Matt Zisow.

Before Duke's glorious victory over Carolina January 28, the Delta Kappa Chapter tallied a victory of their own. Reviving their fall philanthropy for the Carolina game, the chapter rolled out the barbeques and fed the hungry Cameron faithful the night before the game. The brothers grossed over $1500, the profits of which will go to our national philanthropy, Mazon: A Jewish Response to Hunger.

December 1996

The Delta Kappa chapter held its fall philanthropy, once again in the cold confines of Krzyzewskiville, before the Michigan game. The pre-game barbeque raised funds to benefit our national philanthropy--Mazon: A Jewish Response to Hunger. Although a tent check during the barbeque limited the amount of food sold, the chapter still grossed over $500 for charity.

September 1996

Almost eleven years after being chartered at Duke, the Delta Kappa chapter finally has its own cofa displayed alongside the other fraternities in the University's Blue and White Room or "the Pits" as its known to most students.

The cofa which is directly in front of the quad entrance to the Pits was erected after the fraternity requested it be put up at the beginning of last year.

May 1996

The chapter elected three new officers at the end of the spring semester. They are Social Chair Jason Freeman, Sentinel Jeff Kolesky and Rush Master Jeff Naumowitz.

The chapter would like to thank Social Chair Jeff Epstein, Sentinel Keith Fournier and Pledge Master Stephen Edelson for their service.

March 1996

Duke may have lost to Carolina on March 3, but the Delta Kappa chapter came out on top.

While camping out in Krzyzewskiville for the Carolina game. the Delta Kappa chapter held their annual philanthropy and raised over $1500 for AEPi's national charity, the Tay-Sachs Disease foundation.

For the last two nights before the game, the chapter held a barbeque, selling hamburgers, hot dogs, steak and chicken sandwiches to hungry Krzyzweskiville residents and others who were enjoying the atmosphere.

This philanthropy was one of the most successful in the ten-year history of the Delta Kappa chapter.

November 1995

For the fourth year in a row, Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity has been awarded the highest academic honors from Duke's Inter-fraternity council.

As will be announced next week at the IFC banquet (planned by our very own, Mark Perlmutter), the Delta Kappa chapter has once again taken top academic honors by scoring the highest cumulative GPA on campus for the 1994-95 school year. The fraternity average is approximately 3.47.

As much as the current brothers enjoy having a good time, scholarship has always been a top priority for the chapter, and will continue to be for years to come.

October 1995

The Delta Kappa chapter hosted its tenth anniversary celebration this year during Duke's homecoming festivities This year marks the tenth anniversary of the fraternity's national charter with Alpha Epsilon Pi. Along with the normal throng of recent alumni that were in Durham for homecoming festivities, many of the founding fathers of the fraternity returned to Duke for the anniversary weekend.

The weekend included the normal homecoming events, and alumni received special tenth anniversary gifts for attending the celebration. Alumni and brothers also celebrated the fraternity's recent move to House I on Duke's main West Campus.

On Saturday night, the fraternity opened its doors to the rest of the Duke campus for the annual Gutfest party with a live Disc Jockey. Any alumni planning to hold tenth anniversary reunions at Duke or elsewhere in the near future should contact the fraternity at P.O. Box 99307, Durham, N.C. 27708-9307.

September 1995

After years of waiting , Alpha Epsilon Pi will finally have its cofa displayed alongside every other greek organization on campus in Duke's Blue and White Room. For years, Delta Kappa pledges have wondered why there was no sign for the fraternity in Blue and White room or as its affectionately called at Duke, the "Pits." Veteran brothers have told pledges varying reasons from the inordinate cost of wood to put the sign on or lack of an artist to paint the cofa on the sign.

It only took a simple call to an administrator to have this sign put up. The signs are paid for by the University and they have their own artist who paints the sign. The fraternity has submitted its cofa to the University and is eagerly awaiting the unveiling of the sign. Although a completion date has not yet been set for the sign, the University said their artist is a slow worker, and they hope to have the sign up by the end of the fall semester this year.

Brother dinners at the Pits hold a long tradition for the Delta Kappa chapter. Along with residence on main West Campus, the brothers of AEPi will finally have a place to sit and eat there as well.

August 1995

AEPi moved into its new home this week on main west campus. House I, which used to be home to Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, is the delta kappa chapter's first section on west campus.

AEPi shares clocktower quad with Mirecourt, Sigma Chi fraternity and Spectrum. The move comes as a part of President Nan Keohane's housing shakeup which had displaced almost every living group on campus.

March 1995

Upon our return form Spring Break, AEPi has a very busy social calendar planned. This Friday March 24 AEPi will have a "Going West" party celebrating our move to Duke's main West Campus next year. The party is being planned by the AEPi pledges.

On Friday March 31, AEPi will sponsor its annual "Ten Plagues" Party celebrating the coming Passover holiday. Alumni from around the country will be visiting to commemorate the last "Ten Plagues" party on East Campus. "Ten Plagues" is usually the Delta Kappa chapter's biggest social event of the year.

The Spring Formal has also been scheduled for April 8 at the Durham Arts Council.

February 1995

Alpha Epsilon Pi--Delta Kappa chapter received a new housing assignment today on Duke University's main West Campus for next year. The chapter will be located in House I where Alpha Tau Omega fraternity has resided in the past.

This change, which comes with President Nan Keohane's residential shakeup at Duke, transplants the fraternity from East Campus where they have lived for the past five years.

Although it is a quiet and grassy campus and has provided a cozy home for AEPi, East is not the center of social activity at Duke. Next year, Keohane plans to fill the campus with all freshman students.

February 1995

This is the grand premiere of the AEPi-Delta Kappa home page on the World Wide Web. This page will updated about every 2 weeks with what's going on in AEPi at Duke. If you have anything you would like to submit just e-mail Ivan Snyder.

At the beginning of the semester, we elected new officers. They are Master Marc Levin, Lt. Master Marc Abrams, Scribe Ivan Snyder, Exchequer Sam Wineburgh, Sentinel Jason Freeman, Rush Chair Jeff Epstein and Pledgemaster Troy Volin.

We are currently organizing a couple of community service programs through Duke's Community Service Center at organizations such as the John Avery Boys and Girls Club in Durham.
