Change through Change
Association for India's Development (AID) has
several initiatives for fundraising to support grassroots
developmental projects in India. Now, the Duke chapter of AID makes
it easier for you to contribute to this cause and make a difference:
Change through Change!! AID periodically conducts the "Change for
Change" penny collection drive, when we request people to donate
their unused loose change to AID. We give you a nice box for
collecting your coins, which we then collect periodically.
FAQ's
Q. Does penny collection drive mean you only
collect pennies ?? A. Not at all. We will take all your
pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters and any higher denomination, with
pleasure.
Q. How do you convert the change to cash
?? A. We use the Coinstar coin counting machines at Kroger or
Harris Teeter. They take a commission of approximately 10%.
Q. Why don't you count it yourself and drop it
in a bank or use the fancy coin sorters you get at Walmart
?? A. Banks need the coins sorted, counted and rolled in
wrappers. The sheer volume of coins we collect each time (more than
3000 pennies) prevents us from using the coin sorters you get at
Walmart (which is low throughput) or do it manually. If you have
better ideas please let me know.
Q. What do you do with the cash ?? A. It
goes into the AID-Duke account, which we use to fund our projects.

Partnership with Food Lion
Get your groceries at Food Lion! All you need to
do is get yourself a MVP card at Food Lion and send us your MVP card
number. 3% of the proceeds of every purchase you make, while
presenting the card to Food Lion, goes to
AID. This is a great way to help AID help India because
it costs nothing to the person buying groceries. You can support a
developmental project just by buying your regular groceries - isn't
that neat?! |
