Major and Minor

Major in Arabic

A major in AMES with a concentration in Arabic requires ten courses which should be distributed as follows:

Outside the area of concentration

Students who start with Arabic at the 100 level can opt to take three language courses (e.g. ARB 125-126-183 or ARB 126-183-184, ARB, 195S) and more literature/culture courses. Alternately, students can take more than four language courses (e.g. ARB 63-64, 125-126, and 183) and fewer literature/culture courses.

Minor in Arabic

Minor in Arabic is available in two tracks: the language track and the literature track. Five courses are required in each track. A minor in the language track requires 3-4 language courses, two of which must be at the 100 level, and 1-2 literature/culture courses.  A minor in the literature track requires 2 language courses above the elementary level, 1-2 Arabic literature/culture courses and 1-2 other AMES literature/culture courses.
