DELTA UPSILON CHAPTER - DUKE UNIVERSITY

AOII's official philanthropy is Arthritis Reseach and Education. Every year, the Delta Upsilon Chapter holds our Dodgeball Tournament to raise money for the Arthritis Research Foundation. In addition, we participate in at least one other philanthropy event each month within the greek and campus community.

AOII is famous for its annual philanthropy event, "AOII Dodgeball: Strike Out Arthritis!" Teams from across the Duke Community compete for a few hours on a Saturday afternoon in some friendly competition. It's a great way to bring together the Duke community and raise money for Arthritis research; last year, we raised approximately $1000 at AOII Dodgeball! One hundred percent of the money raised for this event is given to philanthropy. The major recipient of these donations is The Arthritis Research Foundation. Other portions of the money raised go to the Ruby Fund, an AOII fund that grants money to sisters in need, including sisters suffering from illnesses or undergoing surgery. We are grateful to all those who have contributed to our fundraising efforts, and thank them for making many successful events possible!

You may wonder, why arthritis? Well, right now, there are nearly 300,000 children in America with some form of arthritis or rheumatic disease. There are 8.4 million young adults between the ages of 18-44 who have arthritis and millions of others at risk for developing it. AOIIs do everything we can to help both children and adults alike. Sadly, there is NO current cure for Arthritis, but helping to raise money can fund research for it!

**Note: Dodgeball will be held on October 17, 2008.
