About Us: Duke University American Red Cross

The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization begun in 1863. The organization today has its headquarters in Washington D.C., and is led by volunteers throughout the globe. We provide relief to victims of disasters, and we help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to personal, local, national, and international emergencies.

The American Red Cross of Duke University is an organization consisting primarily of undergraduate students at Duke University. We hope to promote the ideals of the American Red Cross through volunteer efforts on campus, in the local community, and internationally. Our efforts can be categorized into seven major initiatives: Blood Services, Disaster Services, Red Cross for Kids, Health and Safety, International Services, HIV/AIDS Outreach, and Minority Health. We hope you find our website interesting and informative.

"The Duke Red Cross provided me the skills and training necessary to responsibly act in a variety of situations that required medical attention. From the fishing village of Muhuru Bay, Kenya to the busy streets of Kunming, China, I found myself relying on the skills the Duke Red Cross gave me. It's kind of insane how much you do learn in just one afternoon, but how critical those basic skills become in crises. Thank you for helping me save a three lives this summer."
