| Emergency Services Mission The goal of the Emergency Services committee of Duke's American Red Cross group is to meet people's immediate emergency needs, as well as to work to prevent emergency situations and educate people about preparation and response for emergencies or disasters. Projects
One of our main activities this year is setting up the Disaster Action Team (DAT) which is a group of trained individuals who respond to fire calls in the Durham area and on campus. The DAT helps the affected family get through the emergency phase by helping to provide shelter, food, clothes, and other supplies. They also give assistance to individuals and families affected by disaster in order to help enable them resume their normal daily activities independently. Education In order to help prevent fires and man-made disasters as well as be prepared in the case of a natural disaster, the Emergency Services committee will work to inform individual's on what can be done to be prepared in the case of a disaster (safety kits, emergency numbers, etc.) through means such as tabling and fliering. Fundraising The Emergency Services committee also plans to collaborate with other organizations in order to fundraise for various emergency and disaster situations locally, nationally, and internationally. When a disaster arises, we will work to help raise money in order to donate to the area affected through donations, raffling, sales, and other fundraising activities.
