Kelly (Anne) Farrell

Name: Kelly (Kelfa)

Hometown: Cornelius, NC

Year: Graduated 2006 -- now I just visit because I love ATH

Arts: I am as much an observer as a true producer, but I enjoy crafty things, especially scrapbooking, and also tend to use my colorguard flag as a medium of expression of sorts. More recently, I've gotten into photography (instead of just its presentation in scrapbooks...)

Favorite food: Blueberries!

Favorite movie/book/folktale/opera/(insert medium though which a story can be told): Princess Mononoke, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (books, then movie), Steve Brill's Edible and Medicinal Wild Plants, Mists of Avalon

Favorite quote: If you want heaven -- it is here. Walk through an aspen grove on a bright autumn day. The gold in that light is more real than in the streets beyond the Pearly Gates. If you seek total union with the cosmos, then float a river, drift into river time, let the rich red of the San Juan or the crystal of the Salmon make you part of All... And reincarnation -- yes, that too. Your atoms are of the everlasting rocks, and will become buzzard, weasel, dung beetle, worm, and so on for eternity after your simple brain sleeps. Heaven, Nirvana, Valhalla, everlasting life are here and now -- in the real world. We need nothing more than this paradise into which we were born.

  • I am a biologist through and through, and specialize with plants.
  • I love green things, and have aspired to become a tree. I'll settle for elfin, though, as I was having trouble photosynthesizing...
  • I have an interesting back.
  • I spent a semester last year at the Duke Marine Lab then another in Costa Rica. It was an amazing experience.
  • Last "semester" I was teaching in the Dominican Republic. Now I'm back, and am teaching environmental education in Alabama for the spring.
  • I love life. Skipping is fun.
