The Administrative Women's Network was established in 1985. Its mission is to assist women, especially
those in administrative positions, in the accomplishment of their goals by fostering professional
development and personal growth. AWN provides a forum for supporting and sharing ideas and expertise,
and for meeting other Duke women.
The Administrative Women's Network supports Duke University in valuing the contributions of women by:
- recognizing their accomplishments
- compensating and promoting employees based on job performance
- providing equitable opportunities for advancement
- respecting their multifacted contributions in professional, personal, and community
endeavors
- offering options such as flexible scheduling, telecommuting, job-sharing and part-time
work to allow for balance between the many aspects of their lives.
We empower others by being role models who embrace diversity, build confidence, enhance effectiveness,
and mentor others in their professional growth and development.
The above vision statement was crafted at an October 28, 1998 meeting of the Administrative Women's
Network, where attendees began the process of articulating a vision of an outstanding work environment
for all women at Duke. AWN is publicizing this statement with the intent of promoting, encouraging,
and building this environment.
