About Brownstone
Brownstone, one of many selective living groups on the campus of Duke University, is much more than just a dorm. It's a community, a support network, a house of friends, and most of all, a family. At Brownstone, one will always feel welcome, just like at home.
Brownstone is located in the recently renovated Kilgo Quad. Our dorm has 28 air-conditioned rooms comprised of 24 doubles and 4 singles (minus 2 for RAs) as well as a commons room with kitchen, six bathrooms, and two trash rooms.

What We Have to Say
"Joining Brownstone was one of the best decisions I've made in my time at Duke. Living with a huge group of friends that you can hang out with and count on is amazing and I couldn't see being at Duke without it. It's not just a dorm... it's a community of people that stretches across the campus and beyond." - M@ Campbell
"Brownstone is about individuality in a collective environment. Brownies/Stoners do not subscribe to the homogenous clique mentality that seems to characterize much of the social interaction elsewhere at Duke. We are opinionated, open, and insane. Brownstone offers an opportunity to feel ownership on campus, to feel that here is truly something that belongs to us, and that we belong to. This is our house, we have more complex relationships than a WB soap opera, and if you walk into the commons room or attempt to navigate through a crowded hallway or stairwell, you might as well sit down and enjoy yourself - we expect you to stay a while." - Rebecca Sun
"Brownstone is about, first of all, the people in it. What distinguishes Brownstone is the amount of interaction and friendship between its members. No matter what, you can always be sure that you can head into the commons room and strike up a conversation, because you know everyone in the dorm and they're all your friends. And you'll always find groups (perhaps herds would be a better word) of us eating dinner at various locations across campus. So the primary reason anyone should be interested in Brownstone is the people in it -- some (me not least among them) are rather quirky, a few are not, but all are fun to be around. That, at least, is why I like Brownstone, and what I think it's about." - Matt Atwood
