FAQ
Do you have a theme?
Not really, although we sometimes like to claim "chocolate and basketball" as our theme. We're really just a social group -- a very large block of friends. For a quick and dirty idea of who we are, read the About Us page.
Are you affiliated with the East Campus Substance Free dorm Brown?
No, there is no current relationship, although some people do assume so. Brownstone Selective House originally was located in East Campus Brown before East was reserved only for Freshmen. But, we were in fact so rowdy that they moved us to West (hence the addition of the "-stone" suffix; East is Brick, West is Stone) and changed East Campus Brown into a substance-free dorm! Again, for a quick and dirty idea of who we are, read the About Us page.
What kind of programming do you guys do? (not counting the rush events)
Our house council plans all sorts of goodies. One semi-formal and two large open-campus parties per semester. One dorm retreat per semester. Tons of seasonal intramural sports. Weekly dorm dinners. The occasional faculty dinner (Brodhead, anyone?). And that's just the official stuff. Some of our best "dorm events" are the impromptu things that kinda just happen from using our mailing list. Room parties, movie nights, spontaneous road trips, karaoke, pillow fights, going out dancing... the list goes on.
Are there dorm dues?
$55 a semester. Dirt cheap. There are benefits to being one of the largest selective houses on campus -- the burden is spread thin.
What is b'stone looking for in rushees?
Let's start by talking about what we AREN'T looking for. Since we're a lot more than just a living space on main West, please don't rush here *exclusively* to break a housing link to Edens. As you continue on through rush, it'll become clear that we're a very eclectic group of people. We're all different and there's no "model" Brownie. I guess to put it simply then, we want people who want us -- people who gel with us socially and who will play an active part in dorm activities.
Is it ever too late to rush?
Frosh jump in at all stages of rush! Um, unless it's like February. Of course, it is ideal to start as early as possible to really get the full experience and meet everyone.
Do you have first/second cuts like some other dorms? And are there interviews?
Nope, and nope!
How many get in?
Depends how many current brownies decide to go abroad next year, come back from abroad, or decide to live off-campus. Probably on the order of twenty get in. We always have a waitlist, because heck, there just aren't enough beds for all the awesome people we'd like to have living with us.
So there's an application?
It will be posted later on this page. It's low-key and fun, trust us. Due on Superbowl Sunday.
What happens if I live with you guys?
For all selective houses, there is a two-year living requirement. But you're totally allowed to go abroad or even RA and have it count for your "contracted" years. So for frosh rushees, you can opt to live off-campus your senior year. However, most seniors decide to stick around (is it any surprise?). And hey, even some select alums decide to stick around...
When is "bid day"?
Mid-February
If you have any questions about the rush process or want more information, please contact our Rush Chairs, Megan Cheney and Priyanka Kanakamedala.
