Transportation:
Please arrive on Monday, August 10, 2009. It is preferable, though not required, that you arrive between 10AM- 3PM on August 11, 2008. The Project BUILD staff will pick participants up at the arrival gate from train stations, bus stations, or airplane terminals as you specified on your transportation form. Activities will begin promptly at 4PM, so please plan to arrive on time.
Arrival:
Upon your arrival to campus on August 10, 2009, please check in at the "Down Under" of the Gilbert-Addoms dormitory on East Campus. Once you get to the front gates of East Campus, look for signs that will lead you to the GA Down Under. If driving, follow the directionsto East Campus. We will be outside, all smiles, awaiting your arrival.
Accommodations:
We will be staying in a commons room of a dormitory on East Campus. Everyone will sleep and keep their belongings in the commons room (it is air-conditioned!). So please be sure to bring sleeping bag and pillow.
Policies:
Smoking inside the residence facilities is strictly prohibited. The consumption of alcohol or use of drugs at any time during Project BUILD is also strictly prohibited. All Project BUILD participants must remain with the program until its completion at 9 AM on August 19.
Spending Money:
All meals and activities are prepaid during the program, you will not need any additional money to participate in BUILD events. However, occasionally some crews go out for desserts, etc. in which case you may wish to bring a small amount of spending cash.
Mail, Calls, and Visitors:
During the week, we strongly discourage any visitation by parents and friends. Mail may be sent in care of Project BUILD, Duke University, Box 90946, Durham, NC 27708. Please have your name and Project BUILD marked clearly on the envelope. We ask that participants initiate any calls only during free time and that only emergency calls be made to the following number: (919) 684-3511 Dean of Students Office
Last Day:
BUILD officially ends at 9AM on August 18, 2009. Vans carrying participants and their luggage will relocate to the gravel lot off of West Campus across from Duke's main entrance. The parking lot is at the intersection of Chapel Drive and Duke University Road. Parents may pick up their students at this parking lot. Students who have driven to BUILD and who are not meeting their parents will be released and are free to drive their own cars at 9AM when the program ends.
Storage:
A limited amount of storage space will be available during BUILD in order to accommodate BUILDers arriving from great distances. If this is the case contact Jim Davy, there are alternatives to storing items for the week. However, due to limited space we highly recommend that you mail boxes directly to your dorm room or arrange for your parents to bring the rest of your belongings when BUILD ends and freshmen move-in occurs. Project BUILD is not responsible for damage caused to items while in storage.What to Bring:
