This is CAAAS’s inaugural year, and we plan to devote it to developing
a critical mass (our current membership includes faculty and students from
Duke as well as UNC and NC State).
Throughout the year, the Center will organize a series of roundtable discussions
on the relationship between Asian Studies and Asian American Studies.
In February 2003, we will be hosting a major conference on the cultures of
Hip Hop across Asia and America, in collaboration with the Department of Music
and the Program in African & African American Studies. The event will
combine academic lectures/panels with performances, exhibits, and other interactive
