The Cultural Anthropology Majors’ Union was established in the fall of 2000. It was started as an effort to bond together the cultural anthropology department together, thereby improving the quality of the cultural anthropology experience at Duke.

Constitution

ARTICLE I

The name of this organization will be the "Cultural Anthropology Majors’ Union.”

ARTICLE II

The purpose of the CAMU will be to represent the undergraduate student body of the Department of Cultural Anthropology at Duke University in order to promote their academic, professional and social interests towards advancement.

ARTICLE III

The Membership in this organization shall be open to any student majoring or minoring in the undergraduate program of the Department of Cultural Anthropology of Duke University, and shall not be denied on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, physical or mental handicap, age, sex, sexual preference, ancestry or medical condition.

ARTICLE IV

Elections will be held annually to fill the offices of President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. Only CAMU members may run for office, and candidacy is open to any CAMU member. The officers for the current year shall be listed in the by-laws. The officers will be elected for one-year terms.

ARTICLE V

Meeting times will be publicized at least a week in advance. A quorum for a meeting shall be six club members including at least two club officers, while major decisions will be voted on by the members at large either through email or paper ballots whichever is deemed most practical and inclusive.

ARTICLE VI

This constitution may be amended by a two-thirds majority vote of present quorum.

ARTICLE VII

New by-laws and amendments to existing by-laws may be proposed during meetings and may be passed by majority vote.
