Meeting Notes for February
15, 2001
A. Introduction
1. What is the majors' union?
The
majors’ union is an organization dedicated to enhancing the experience of
cultural anthropology affiliation at Duke.
We exist as a potential medium between students and faculty, an event
planner, an informative source, and a link to administration. You can contact us at anytime should you
have questions or requests with regards to the department.
2. Who
are our officers and how can I contact them?
Robby
Hutchison President arh4@duke.edu
613 – 2803
Corinne Martin Vice-President cem5@duke.edu
Kelly Fayard Treasurer knf2@duke.edu
Anna Luty Secretary
aml10@duke.edu
3. How will the website be
utilized?
Finding
a time when everyone who wants to attend the meetings is difficult. While the CAMU will continue to hold
physical meetings, this website will enable us to do much greater planning with
a greater number of people through the use of the discussion forum
(talk). Furthermore, the site will
soon develop a web database of academic and internship opportunities for CA
students. This site will be our link
to each other enabling us with fast and easy communication.
B. Activities
1. CA/BAA mixer
Date: TBA
A little over a decade ago, the field
of anthropology split into two distinct fields of study. Since then, these two fields have had
fairly limited contact with one another… until now. The CA and BAA majors’ unions would like to invite all CA and
BAA department affiliates to the first ever Duke Anthropology Mixer. Details TBA
2. Study/Intern opportunities
It’s not always easy to figure out
academic or employment plans outside of Duke when you’re a CA major. CAMU would like to help by establishing a
database of opportunities which will be displayed from the CAMU website. This, however, represents a task that
requires a good deal of time. In
order to help us out, if you should come across anything of interest that you
would like to send into the webmaster, it would be posted for all CA majors
to see.
3. Faculty/Student activities
Outside
of the classroom, limited faculty/student interaction takes place. This simply shouldn’t be the case with our
happy family of a department. Rather,
CAMU would like to see a regular interaction between students and faculty
OUTSIDE the classroom. Some of the
activities in the works is a student faculty barbeque (Date: TBA), student
faculty lunches, and a possible cultural fieldtrip.
